For
those of us who are lucky enough to live on the Penders it is easy to
see that every road leads to a painting.
About
1972 several friends who loved to paint got together to share their interest
and The Pender Island Art Group was formed. It later became The Pender
Islands Art Society. PIAS meets on two Mondays each month (check the Pender
Post) and non-members are welcome to attend. The membership has grown
from just a few to about 40. Throughout the year many workshops are offered:
some given by members and some by well-known BC artists. Life drawing
is arranged as often as possible. Workshops have expanded to carving and
printmaking.
The
highlight of each year is the annual PIAS Art Show and Sale, which is
held at the end of July or early August over the holiday weekend. The
Show always offers new works by the members in a wide range of medium
and styles.
